Uriah Howe's Military Service
According to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Lineage Book, Volume 76, Uriah Howe “served as a private in Capt. Davis Howlett’s company, Col. Ashley’s regiment, New Hampshire militia, to re-enforce the Continental Army at Ticoderoga, 1777.”
Entry 53 shows Uriah Howe listed on the abstract of the pay roll for Captain Davis Howlett's Company in Colonel Ashely's Regiment of Militia, which marched from Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, to reinforce the Continental Army at Ticonderoga, Essex County, New York. Entry 70 could be his father-in-law, Joshua Graves.
The 3-page individual military record for Uriah Howe supports the claim of his military service from 29 June - 11 July 1777 as part of Capt. Davis Howlett's company in Col. Ashley's regiment of the New Hampshire militia that was sent to re-enfoce the Continental Army at Ticonderoga.
The entry for Uriah Howe in the first volume of Daniel Wait Howe’s Howe Genealogies credits Uriah with service in the company of Capt. Samuel Wright’s company in Col. Nichols' regiment that “marched from Winchester, N. H., and joined the army at Bennington and Stillwater, 23 July 1777.”
The two-page individual military record for Uriah Howe supports the claim of his military service from 23 July 1777 – 18 September 1777. During this time Uriah Howe would have fought in the Battle of Bennington on 16 August 1777 in Hoosick Falls, New York as part of Nichols' regiment that assaulted Baum's Hessian dragoons on the Dragoon redoubt.
